Are you a survivor? If so, the Life Raft Group is here to help. The LRG has a simple focus-to cure GIST and to help those living with it until then. No matter what phase you are in on your GIST journey, we are here to help you.
If you are interesting in learning about better managing your GIST care, you should first determine your starting point.
If you have been recently diagnosed, please visit a special area of the website we created just for you. We know how difficult and confusing it can be to receive a rare cancer diagnosis. You have a million questions and not enough answers. Here we will guide you through GIST understanding, management and support without overwhelming you.
Coping with cancer is difficult enough, but coping with a rare cancer can be even more isolating. We provide helpful information on dealing with GIST at any age (a teenager and middle-aged person will encounter very different challenges while coping with GIST) mind and body topics like body image issues and fear of recurrence; dealing with your relationships to others during this time, like dating with GIST and talking with your employer; and while it is not something anyone wants to deal with, learning about end-of-life preparation and care like advanced directives.
While it is no replacement for the care of your physician, there is great benefit to being surrounded by others in your same situation. The amount of knowledge and support that can be gained by joining the Life Raft Group community is something no doctor can provide. We can help connect you to other survivors via online support groups and local in-person meetings. We also provide other features to our members including our newsletters, webcasts, educational materials and one-on-one counseling.
