LRG Webcast Series

On September 19, 2016 the Life Raft Group was pleased to have Dr. Benjamin D. Humphreys, Chief of the Division of Nephrology at Washington University in St. Louis School of Medicine, share his knowledge and insight regarding kidney disease. Dr. Humphreys reviewed chronic kidney disease and kidney injury as it relates to therapy with both Sutent and Gleevec. He focused on long-term GIST survivors receiving Gleevec and the possibility that this therapy might cause kidney disease. A question & answer session was held at the end of the presentation.

Dr. Benjamin D Humphreys

Dr. Benjamin D Humphreys

Dr. Humphreys is an Associate Professor of Medicine at Washington University in St. Louis School of Medicine where he is Chief of the Division of Nephrology.  He also directs the Onco-Nephrology Clinic. He received a bachelor’s degree from Harvard College and MD and PhD degrees from Case Western Reserve University. He completed a residency in Internal Medicine at Massachusetts General Hospital and a fellowship in Nephrology at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston.

He has had a longstanding interest in all forms of cancer-related kidney disease and in human studies, he investigates the mechanisms of kidney toxicity induced by targeted therapies, including hypertension and proteinuria in cancer patients receiving anti-VEGF therapies.
