SUMMARY:LRG Webcast: What is SDH...
DESCRIPTION:How Is It Related to Cancer\, and What Can Be Done About It?\nSDH is a protein that is based in the mitochondria. Its loss causes a major energy and metabolic crisis. Despite this\, some types of cells can ‘benefit’ from the loss of SDH and continue to grow uncontrollably and generate tumors. \nIdentifying metabolic enzymes as molecular drug targets that are uniquely essential for the survival of SDH-deficient cells is a key first step in the development of new therapies for SDH-deficient tumors. Some of these druggable enzymatic targets are being actively pursued. \nDr. Eyal Gottlieb will break down the biology of cells and discuss metabolism and growth during cancer formation. \nThis webcast is geared for patients and families with SDH-deficient GIST and other tumors. \nThere will be at 15 min Q&A at the end of his presentation. \nView the Webcast\n  \nTo submit questions that could potentially be addressed during the webcast\, please submit to Sara Rothschild at srothschild@liferaftgroup.org by September 1. \nFor some background on cancer metabolism\, review this document. \nPresenter\n\n\n\nDr. Eyal Gottlieb\nLaura and Isaac Perlmutter Chair of Cancer Research\, Faculty of Medicine\nTechnion – Israel Institute of Technology\nHaifa\, Israel \n\n\n\nTechnical Tips to Join Meeting:\n\nThis is a web only meeting\, accessed only by your internet connection. Participants are encouraged to use the web link automatically provided after registration and to use computer speakers (and/or headsets if available) to hear the audio portion of the meeting. Please log in at least ten minutes prior to the start of the webinar.\nPlease ensure you have an updated version of Adobe Flash Player (Google Chrome has Flash built in).\nIf you are using a mobile device or tablet\, in order to view and hear the conference\, download the ReadyTalk App from your App store.

SUMMARY:Life Fest 2018
DESCRIPTION:RegisterBook A Hotel\nLife Fest is a unique event where hundreds of patients and caregivers come together for a weekend to interact with each other and the medical and scientific communities that serve them. Faced with a rare form of cancer\, GIST patients have a great need for information about this disease\, particularly as the science evolves and our understanding reveals a complex set of subtypes of GIST\, each responding differently to available treatments. Each year brings a wealth of new information\, and patients are eager to learn about the latest treatments. \nLife Fest workshops provide patients with emerging medical information\, and they come away with a deeper knowledge of the disease\, treatments and side effect management. They find hope in knowing the scientific community is working toward a cure\, and hope is such a vital asset as they struggle day by day for survival. Life Fest Agenda 2018 \nThe Life Raft Group emerged in recognition of the tremendous need for support in the GIST community. Life Fest 2018 will provide patients and caregivers with that support. Coming together with fellow patients from all walks of life from around the world is a meaningful and powerful experience. \nIn addition to our traditional educational workshops\, Life Fest 2018 will feature scientific presentations highlighting the newest research and the latest treatments. Additionally\, other disease advocacy groups will be invited to present the work of their organizations\, and share lessons learned. \nScholarship/financial assistance will be available to those who can’t afford to participate in Life Fest. The intention of the scholarship/financial aid fund is to make Life Fest available to individual patients\, family members and/or caregivers\, regardless of their financial situation. \nDate / Time\nFriday July 13th – 3-5PM\nSaturday July 14th – 7:30-5PM\nSunday\, July 15th – 8:45AM-noon \nLocation\nHilton Miami Downtown\n1601 Biscayne Boulevard\nMiami\, FL 33132
