DESCRIPTION:Please join Modern Mahjong for a virtual tournament to benefit the LRG! \nPlay at your convenience between Nov. 1-6\n$36 Registration fee for 6 rounds (4 games per round)\nPlay for fun. Compete for gift cards and raise funds & awareness \nBeginners & Advanced Players Welcome! \nREGISTRATION IS CLOSED\nYou’re invited to play virtually with Modern Mahjong to benefit the LRG. Have you always wanted to enter a tournament\, but you’ve been a little hesitant because you’re not sure if you’re fast enough\, or if there’s scoring issues? We have a great way for you to get ready for tournaments while playing in a tournament. It is our Modern Mah Jongg flexible virtual tournament. You play online on any National Mah Jongg League website\, either with friends that you register with\, or we could set you up and you could play with other players on the same website. If we can’t find three other players on the website of your choice\, there’s an option of playing against bots for a bot prize. \nYou play at your convenience anytime between November 1 and November 6. You register for $36 for six rounds\, which is four games per round. You could play them all at once\, or you could break them up however your group works. We try to pair players in the same time zone if we can and put people together for a fun and competitive game. You could win gift cards for Modern Mah Jong and Amazon\, all while raising funds and awareness. Each month that we have a tournament we pick a different charity and this month (November) proceeds will benefit The Life Raft Group. \nThe great thing about playing in our virtual tournament in addition to having fun competing for prizes and raising funds and awareness is we set you up to understand how timing works\, how scoring works and gets you ready to play in a local tournament or a national tournament. \nOur custom score sheets include the rules as well as how to score. So scoring is based on the value of the card. If you are Joker-less other than a singles and pairs hand\, you get a bonus. If you’re self-picked for any hand\, you get a bonus. If you throw to an exposure\, more than two exposures\, you get deductions. And at the end of the tournament\, whoever is considered East simply takes a picture of\, or scans the document of your score sheet and emails them to us. We put everything in order and announce the winners and email prizes out. So it’s a really simple and fun way to get started on tournaments and see if you love them. \nWhat’s not to love having fun with friends\, entering for prizes and doing good by raising funds and awareness for charity? \nQuestions? She actively cultivates\, engages and deepens these relationships so that she can elevate LRG fundraising and volunteering efforts while meaningfully acknowledging contributions made to the LRG and rare diseases overall. She works closely with the senior executive team and Board of Directors to ensure the development and success of the organization by instilling a culture of community involvement\, philanthropy\, strategic planning while addressing any development issues within the organization. DESCRIPTION: A Bi-Weekly Virtual Support Group for GIST Caregivers\nHeld on the first & third Wednesdays of the month\nAs we continue to navigate this uncertain time together\, we want to offer you a little extra support. LRG has a twice monthly support group for the caregivers facilitated by Marlene Nei\, GIST Caregiver. To continue social distancing and connecting with caregivers across the United States\, we will use an electronic platform to gather as a group. We will talk about all the feelings you might be experiencing\, both in relation to GIST\, and COVID-19. \nWe will share our stories\, if you are comfortable\, and speak freely about the new fears and anxieties we might be feeling because of this unprecedented time. The group will be a safe space not only to feel supported by your fellow caregivers\, but also a place to share our own coping mechanisms to get us through this stressful time. All information shared will be kept confidential. DESCRIPTION:This Support Group will be held at 10am Pacific Time/1pm Eastern. \nJoin us on Saturday\, December 10\, at 10:00 am PST. Make yourself comfortable at your computer\, laptop\, tablet\, etc. and participate in what will be a very helpful and informative meeting. \nThe Life Raft Group is offering a virtual California Support Group with Southern California Leader Dina Wiley\, PhD. The group will meet to talk to each other\, discuss individual GIST issues\, and get answers to questions. This will enable you to not only get some relief from the worry of GIST\, but to also help others\, as well. We are\, after all\, in the same life raft\, and we are each needed to pull together. When we do\, wonderful things happen! \nAnd here’s the best part — we will have a very special guest – Dr. Michael Heinrich\, Oregon Health & Science University. \nREGISTERAbout the Group Leader:\nDina Wiley – Dina is a long-time Southern California LRG Support Group Leader. Read about Dina’s GIST journey here \nAbout Our Special Guest:\nMichael Heinrich\, MD\nOregon Health & Science University\nProfessor of Medicine\, School of Medicine\nCell and Developmental Biology Graduate Program\, School of Medicine\nCancer Biology Graduate Program\, School of Medicine\nProgram in Molecular and Cellular Biosciences\, School of Medicine \nDr. Heinrich’s research includes both preclinical identification of novel molecular targets and testing of new agents in the laboratory and the clinic. This includes both genomics research using high-throughput gentoyping to identify oncogenic mutations and testing of new compounds in cellular and biochemical assays. Dr. Heinrich’s laboratory is particularly expert in the analysis of inhibitors of oncogenic receptor tyrosine kinases such as KIT\, PDGFRA and FLT3.
