GIST Group Switzerland is an organization for the support of those affected by gastrointestinal stromal tumors. It supports every effort to improve the treatment of GISTs. To this end, the GIST Group awards an annual prize to organizations or individuals committed to achieving this goal. The prize is awarded for lectures, publications, panel discussions, scientific or socially relevant projects.

Dr. Bauer was recognized for his paper, “Phase I study of panobinostat and imatinib in patients with treatment-refractory metastatic gastrointestinal stromal tumors,” which was published in the British Journal of Cancer (BR J Cancer, 2014, March 4). The organization also recognized his many other publications and his commitment to patients with GIST.

The 2015 science prize, worth CHF 10,000 and donated by GIST Group Switzerland, was presented by Dr. Michael Montemurro, president of the SAKK project group gastrointestinal cancer, and a member of the GIST Award Committee.
