GIST Cook Cookbook coverThe LRG is hosting a virtual cooking demonstration to launch our newly released cookbook, GIST Cook. All proceeds from cookbook sales will go towards GIST cancer research efforts. The cookbook is available in the LRG Store.

Chefs Rosemary and Drew Gabbe of The Fruited Plain Caterers in Parsippany, New Jersey, will prepare a recipe from the GIST Cook as part of the Life Raft Group’s Virtual Life Fest Celebration on Saturday, July 11, 2020 at 4PM ET.

Due to the global pandemic, the Life Raft Group’s biennial meeting scheduled to be held in New Orleans was postponed until next year. Instead, the LRG is offering a series of virtual events designed to educate and inform patients and caregivers and the general public about GIST cancer, and to provide fun events, such as this cooking demonstration. The Gabbes are well-known for their innovative cuisine and dedication to making catered events memorable. Most importantly, they have a reverence for food, and are respected for their charitable acts, whether organizing a suicide prevention walk, or providing food for healthcare workers during the current pandemic. They have generously agreed to share their gifts and talents for this cooking demonstration.

The featured recipe “My Happy Shrimp Scampi” was submitted by GIST Mentor, Rob Taylor. To quote Chef Rosemary, “I really enjoyed preparing Rob’s recipe, I felt connected without ever meeting him!”

“I put together the Happy Shrimp recipe mainly because we have to find joy and happiness where we can. It is good for us to laugh, dance, sing and eat foods that are good for the soul. There is enough in our world to pollute our spirit and drain our positive energies. We have to intentionally pursue happiness. Music that brings us joy like Motown, The Beatles, Sinatra or Elvis sets our mood thermometer to be ready to receive more joy and have fun. It is good to free ourselves and dance to our own music while sipping on something that will relax us and breathing in the aroma of good food simmering. These days, a positive spirit is at a premium. We have to fight the good fight and choose to be happy.” – Rob Taylor
