GISTer Ted Wolf was honored by his family this July with a virtual GIST DO IT Walk, celebrating Ted’s life and GIST Awareness Day. Ted’s wife, Tammy led the effort and was joined by family and friends. Ted, who passed away in July of 2018, received the first Wolf Strong Award at our debut GIST DO IT Walk at Life Fest Miami in 2018. The Wolf Strong award was created to continue to honor Ted Wolf and his legacy. The award has been given to GIST patients who demonstrate a will to thrive and taking steps to doing so every day through philanthropy, volunteerism and advocacy for LRG’s GIST community.
Tammy and the rest of the Wolf family wore their GIST DO IT t-shirts and WolfStrong hats worn at the first GIST DO IT Walk. They ended their virtual walk with a ceremony and living tribute to Ted which was planting a memorial tree. The dogwood tree was planted at Tammy’s mother’s home in Massachusetts. The Wolf family raised $3,700 towards #GISTresearch with this virtual GIST DO IT Walk.
This year’s GIST Awareness Day theme was #GISTHope. GIST Awareness Day was created by the Life Raft Group in 2014 to bring awareness and public attention to gastrointestinal stromal tumors and raise funds for #GISTresearch.
