The New Horizons GIST 2020 Virtual Meeting kicked off on Thursday September 10th at 8am EST. Meeting since 2003, these patient advocates for various cancers split off to a GIST-only meeting several years ago. This year’s meeting, originally planned for Berlin, Germany, was held virtually September 10-12th.
On Friday, August 21, The Life Raft Group hosted a virtual meeting entitled “GIST Patient Advocacy during the 'New Normal' of the COVID 19 Pandemic.” Designed for representatives from global GIST advocacy organizations, its purpose was to provide a forum for the international community to discuss challenges they are facing, and to share experiences and best practices.
The National Organization for Rare Disorders (NORD) held a Rare Disease Summit in Washington, D.C. October 20019, hosting several thousand people comprised of patients, advocates, non-profit employees, health providers, IT developers, pharmaceutical staff, physicians and researchers, and representatives from government entities.
Collaboration among patient groups and working together in setting common goals is vital. Together we can have a stronger voice to achieve our participation in the decision-making on health issues.
